Oludeniz literally means ‘Dead Sea’ when translated. A laid back beach resort set in a stunning bay where dramatic mountains reach the torquoise waters of the Mediterranean. Perhaps most famed for its picture postcard Blue Lagoon, Oludeniz is home to some of Turkey's most impressive costal scenery.
A beach resort with an adventurous twist, Oludeniz has only been popular with tourists over the last 10 years. Previously it was a well trodden backpacker haunt with travellers from all over the world visiting its seemimgly endless sand and shingle beach, enjoying the relaxed beach bars and swimming in the shallow waters of the blue lagoon, the now signiture costal image for Turkey. Your first glimps of Oludeniz as you travel the hour long transfer from the airport is nothing less than stunning. Having passed the town of Fethiye, ventured through the lively tourist resort of Hisaronu, you suddenly turn a corner on the mountain road and way below you see the beautiful colours of the sea, a little resort and invarably a sky filled with paragliders twisting and turning in the thermals high above.
Oludeniz really does seem to have something special, many that visit the area once do so again and again. There are few places in the world where you can choose to be as lazy or as active as here. You can opt to lie around the pool, lay on the beach or enjoy one of the many restaurants, beach bars and shops in the resort or you can go on a real adventure and try diving, microlighting or paragliding if you so wished. The choices of activities and excursions are endless, horseriding, white water rafting, jeep safaris, boat trips, quad biking, all is available here. You could take a trip, hire a car or catch the local dolmus (bus) service to the pretty harbour town of Fethiye - a mere 30 minutes away.
